An Egyptian Girl in America

When I was reading this article, many of the things Karima was saying was the way I thought of the American people. Now, of course not everything she said i can agree with, but she did a good ob in summing up all the points that i typical 'outsider' would think.
One aspect of Americans that I like a lot is how if you were walking outside and happened to pass by a random stranger, that person would smile at you and say hi. I have been to so many countries, and that is something that you would not find.

A bob in Your Life

Does everyone have a bob in their life? Someone or something they can say spill their hearts to without worrying about whether they'll think something weird about them or not. Bob can be anyone or anything anywhere, as long as there is a bob.
Can bob be a thing? A picture? A stone? A memory? Or does bob have to be alive? Can bob be a plant?A pet? A human?
Is there a bob in your life?

I think im getting the hang of it...

For the first few weeks, I was starting to panic because of the homework load and difficulty of the subject. Now I realized its not that bad. I mean its definitely not easy, but at the same time its not impossible. I think I had it stuck in my head that college is for old people and that there is no way I can do it. I even thought of dropping out for about a day.....
But now I'm sure I can do it, if I lived through high school, I can live through anything :))

Mid-term Blog

Other than the part where we have to think too hard to write a paper, I am enjoying this class. There is a lot of interaction between the professor and the students, rather than the proffessor being the only one talking and the students slowly falling asleep. I can confidently say that my first COMP class in college was cool.

The Project

I was very scared/excited today for my project/presentation. When the prof called my name, I couldnt beleive it, mostly because I thought my name would be toward the end. It took me a few seconds for it to click that she was acually calling MY name. While i was going up, i tried concentrating on putting one foot in fron of the other and not falling on my face, w/ a failed attempt b/c somone *cough**corey**cough* had their feet in front of me, but thats ok b/c i caught myself.
so anyways, i think i did well, i think. i know i didnt fail.....my voice was shaky, idk if anyone noticed, but its all done and i cant change it now...

I'm Excited

My grandparents are coming from overseas today. Well, acually its tomorrow, but early tomorrow, like 10 minutes after midnight tomorrow. Less than 4 hours left.
Havent seen them since the summer. if you were to walk in our house, you can feel that we're all waiting for someone to come.... and the clock is ticking....

MLK: Letter form Birmingham Jail

"So the question is not whether we will be extremists, but what kind of extremists we will be." (9th paragraph of letter)

Before stating this, King, Jr. writes many diverse figures and claims that they were as much of extremists as he was. Every person he mentions is an extremist in a different aspect. If a person is an extremist, that is not the problem. However if this extremity is taken too far, then it does become a problem. He says later on that the world needs 'creative extremists'.

Distractions

I've been here at the canton library for about 5 hrs trying to finish all the homework that i have that have to with the book.
I realized that its hopeless, i cannot for the life of me, sit for hours straight and just do work without more than a couple of things to distract me. Whether its YouTube, Facebook, my cell phone, or just surfing the web for random things (I'm a geek like that). So for today I have failed to accomplish anything. I have work up to my neck and I know I should be doing it, but it's too hard to concentrate on one thing for so long.
I need to stop getting distracted.
Easier said than done...

Saturday Evening Post: 4 Freedoms

If Rockwell didn't spend six months painting on the four freedoms, would it have been a big hit to people. Would we be studying it in our classes? Is it because an artist took so long to make these pictures that we still remember FDR's speech?
These answers we wont know. Some people differ in opinion saying that the four freedoms that FDR mentioned are not as important as they are presented to us. Some people say that there are more important ones that we have to consider, especially because the freedom of speech and religion are two that we already have.
However, I believe that people can take the four freedoms and interpret them anyway that they would want. If they want to look at the bright side and realize how these freedoms affect the way we live, they can and no one will stop them from looking at the down side (if there is any).

Ch 12 section c

Section C asks, "shouldn't everyone be willing to pay higher taxes in wartime?"(Lazere 264). I think that it depends. If a person agrees w/ the war and sees the reasons behind it are absolutely necessary, then yes. However, if the war was not important and people are dying for no reason, then why should people pay from the money that they earned to support it?
